Default Tippy comes to Pneumatics

Not sure how many of you got the email but Tippmann is unveiling a new Electropneumatic marker today at 1PM. It's going to be called the x7 Phenom, so I guess they just decided to steal a buzz word from AMD while still capitalizing on the X7's name and popularity.

Anyhow, I figure that Tippmann must be seeing a market in Electroneumatics and I think Smart Parts (and BT as well) is hurting them in that regard. I can see right now though that they will probably miss the boat on part of what makes the SP-1 so popular. Price for what you get is a big thing and I bet you anything that this marker is going to be upwards of 3-400 bucks and probably still not have what the SP-1 and SP-8 can offer.

Not to mention it will probably be a TANK if it's anything like the current x7.

ive looked at everything about this. its just a x-7 to compete with the sp1. but tippy messed it up like usual adding in more parts that will break down.
wait and see, next year you will be walking on the field watching people in the "fix my tippy line"
really, a bolt shouldnt have more then one part. and this electro to mech switch? theres something that will break just as fast as the bolt.
like my dad always told me while i was trying to build some wierd thing in the garage.. "the more moving parts, the more that will go wrong"
kind of like "murphies law" of mechanics. something the engineers at work dont understand. but the SP ones got dead on!
about the BT comment, thats right. this tippy is supposed to be 399 canadian, for less i can get a SP1 with a dye rotot, or a BT TM-7, or for a coule extra $$ i can get a BT TM-15, which is made from invert with tested technology, unlike this new problem waiting to happen

Actually, the mech-electro technology isn't new, AGD did this some years ago on their E-Mag line up and took it a step further, Hybrid mode, which was a cross between electro and mech and was absolutely wicked. I would bet my bottom dollar that Tom Kaye had his hands in this design is it is almost the same exact design as an Automag, especially in how it operates.

Personally, I think it will be a success amongst the milsim crowd, and all the Tippmann loyalists will be rallying but in the long run, I suspect it will be another late attempt at greatness, kind of a coulda, shoulda done this 10 years ago thing. Esp since a Bhearted SP-1 is still considerebly cheaper and equal to or greater then performance of the X7 phenom.

Yeah I have to agree, the price is gonna kill it. But then again, the Tippy's will just assume it must be the best cuz it's so much money

I just can't see any reason for the dual bolt thing....is this really that much of a issue. I've never even heard of anyone running out of battery in the middle of a game. I mean unless you are that out of it that you forget to have a fresh or charged up battery in your marker.

Will it break, I don't know but it just seems like useless technology to me, it won't make the marker function any better, just more parts to it.

SP-1 still wins out as simplier and less expensive...always a win.

see thats the thing about tippy fans, they just think since its a hard shell that its as they say "bomb proof" well every other marker out there is milled aluminium and not a 2 piece shell. they have put some much crap into their markers, which causes problems. remember all the issues with the x7 when it came out? i have a lot of friends that are on 2 separate tippmann sponsored teams and they are finally starting to have their x7's work properly.
one of my good friends, an engineer loves it, but has so many concerns with it cause since he bought it till, last season he has never played a full game from it breaking down or blowing a power tube. finally this year with $100's of upgrade parts from aftermarket manufacturers, it works. also with no e-grip.
as far as i can see the tippmann cult will be buying these things up. and like a lot of people around me, they are looking for new teams so they can get their hands on a SP1 or a BT TM15 and not have to use such garbage anymore.
so glad i didnt join them

I like that feature as it allows you to conserve battery juice on the field. Think of it as " Nice to have it and not need it vs need it and not have it " feature. The difference between this and the E_Mag was the valve, even in mech mode, if you had an adjustable tank, had the pressure bumped up to 900 psi or better, the R/T effect was still an option for mech firepower that is still comparable to electro whatever performance of today. I read some where a guy shooting this in electro F/A mode was having issues with drop off, so as much as Tippmann needs this to stay in the game with today's electro pneumatic paint slingers, it seems it still needs refined.

Yep, not to mention it has eyes, cycles faster and has a ton of upgrades that is shared with Tippmann, lol.

retail over here is £340 - more than twice that of the SP1.

yup, 2x as much, 2x as loud, 2x air, 2x battery and so on....
but that battery thing aint that great... we have already had the thread of SP1 battery use, i know how many cases i can get through mine.
now does SP think that i am incompetent enought to put a mech switch on it for me cause i dont know when to change my battery? come on

give me a brass-eagle before a tippmann
